A 24-year-old from Perinthalmanna in Malappuram, about whom even most Malayalis had not much idea before March, was the most Googled person residing in Kerala in 2025.
Vignesh Puthur, a left-arm spinner who only recently made his debut for the senior Kerala team, features 10th in the list of most searched Indians on Google this year. The top ten also features India cricketer Karun Nair, a Bengaluru-Malayali (8th).
Interestingly, all individuals in the top ten are cricketers, mostly IPL stars. Batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who became the youngest IPL centurion at 14, is on top of the list. The boy from Bihar is also sixth globally, making him the most Googled Indian in 2025.
The top-ten most-Googled Indians list also features Priyansh Arya, Abhishek Sharma, Shaik Rasheed, Jemimah Rodrigues, Ayush Mhatre, Smriti Mandhana and Urvil Patel.
Puthur became an overnight sensation by bagging three wickets on his IPL debut for the Mumbai Indians against the Chennai Super Kings.
Puthur began his cricketing journey under the guidance of coach Vijayan in Perinthalmanna. He steadily climbed the ladder and represented Kerala in the Under-14, Under-19, and Under-23 categories. A turning point in his career came when he played for Alappuzha Ripples in the Kerala Cricket League, where he was spotted by the MI scouts.
He is the only son of Sunil Kumar and KP Bindu, who live near a private bus stand in Perinthalmanna. He is an MA student in English at the PTM Government College, Perinthalmanna.
