Gill and Kohli ton helps India chase down West Indies at Greenfield

Thiruvananthapuram: India beat West Indies by - wickets in a blistering run chase here on Sunday. Captain Shubman Gill’s magnificent innings of 110(108) alongside Virat Kohli’s 139(88) not out helped India emerge victorious in the first ODI fixture of the series.

Having won the toss, India sent Windows to bat first, with openers Justin Greaves, 101(108), and John Campbell set the ground on fire to grant the team a great start. India bounced back through Kuldeep Yadav's spell of 40/4, to restrict the run flow through the middle overs. Amit Jangoo’s 58 (43) helped West Indies to an ample total of 295/7.

The Indian innings kicked off with a great start from openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, putting on a 74-run partnership. Rohit departed scoring 32(35), and Kohli, who followed, partnered with Gill and led the charge of the run chase, putting on a show in front of thousands gathered at God’s Own Country.

Gill departed with the game already settled, while Kohli closed out the run chase with Ruturaj Gaikwad, 13(19), to seal the victory.
