Inter-university football: Calicut emerge champions

Kothamangalam: Calicut University beat Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, Jalandhar 2-0 to emerge champions in the all-India inter-university men's football championship at the MA College ground here on Sunday.

Calicut beat South Zone champions MG University and SBBS downed Punjabi University, Patiala, in the semifinals earlier in the day.

For Calicut, coached by Satheevan Balan, it is the 11th inter-university title and a fourth one under the same coach.

Mishal PK of Calicut was adjudged the Best Striker of the championship while his teammate Suhail PK secured the Best Goalkeeper prize. Nithin Wilson and Ajay Alex of MG were announced as the Best Midfielder and Best Defender respectively.
