Gokulam Kerala crashed out in the quarterfinals of the Durand Cup after a 1-2 defeat to East Bengal at the VYBK in Kolkata on Friday.

Aminou Bouba's own goal in the 78th minute turned out to be the winner for East Bengal.

Earlier, Bouba had equalised for Gokulam with a headed goal in the 57th minute after Australian defender Jordan Rhys Elsey scored in the first minute to put East Bengal ahead.

East Bengal Head Coach Carles Cuadrat had named an unchanged side from their last group match while his Gokulam counterpart Domingo Oramas Cabrera made eight changes.

In the first semifinals to be played on August 29, East Bengal will take on Northeast United which edged Indian Army 1-0 the other day.

In 2019, Gokulam Kerala won the Durand Cup, which is the oldest tournament in Asia.

Result: East Bengal 2 (Elsey 1, Bouba 78 (og)) bt Gokulam Kerala 1 (Bouba 57)
