Football fans call out FIFA for ignoring Palestinian striker’s historic achievement

Supporters of Palestinian football have called out FIFA for allegedly ignoring a historic achievement by one of their national team players at the ongoing Club World Cup in the United States.
"Waiting for FIFA to acknowledge what Palestine's Wessam Abou Ali did last night. Or are they going to erase/overlook that as well?" posted Football Palestine, a portal that extensively covers footballing activities related to Palestine.
Abou Ali scored a hat-rick for Al Ahly in a thrilling group A match against FC Porto that ended 4-4. It was a perfect hat-trick comprising a left-footed strike, a right-footed penalty and a towering header. Abou Ali's treble was the first by an Asian against a team from Europe in an intercontinental club tournament.
Moroccan-Spanish journalist Leyla Hamed wrote: "FIFA publishes stats on any player who scores the first goal for his country in FIFA tournaments… unless he is Palestinian."
To support her argument, Ms Hamed reposted a FIFA post endorsing the PSG winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's goal against Seattle Sounders, the first by a Georgian in a FIFA World Cup or Club World Cup.
FIFA also posted about Manchester City defender Abdukodir Khusanov, who became the first Uzbekistan player to participate in a World Cup or Club World Cup game. FIFA’s report on the match between Al Ahly and Porto also has no mention of Abou Ali’s nationality.
Striker Abou Ali grew up in Denmark and played for the European nation at the youth levels, but chose to represent Palestine, his nation of birth last season. He was part of Palestine's most recent AFC Asian Qualifier against Oman. Palestine needed a win to advance to the fourth round of the qualfiers, but were left heartbroken after Oman scored a penalty in stoppage time (90+7) to draw the match.
Palestine is one of the 211 member associations registered with FIFA. Palestinian men's football team is ranked 101st in the world.
