FIFA has announced that it has sold more than a million tickets for the World Cup to be held next year in the US, Canada and Mexico. According to a FIFA statement, people from 212 countries and territories have purchased tickets for the event that will be held from June 11 to July 19.

Tickets were listed for exorbitant rates on FIFA's Resale/Exchange Marketplace. One ticket for USA's opening match on June 12 at the Los Angeles Stadium was listed for resale at $61,642 (₹55 lakh).

The ticket rates for the USA's opener range from $560 (approx ₹50,000) to $2,735 (₹2.4 lakh). Tickets in New Jersey were listed for prices ranging from $9,538 (₹8.4 lakh) to $57,500 (₹50 lakh).

Those who bought the tickets in the first round were selected from 4.5 million applicants in a lottery that took place last month. The next round of the draw will open on October 27, when FIFA said single-match tickets to all matches will be released.

FIFA has also announced that more tickets will be available closer to the tournament on a first-come, first-served basis.

According to an AP report, there are roughly 7.1 million seats available across the 104 matches to be played in the 16 North American venues. However, it is unclear how many of those seats will be available for sale to the public.
