Malayali rider Harith Noah suffered another painful end to his campaign in the Dakar Rally, following a crash in the first stage in the desert of Saudi Arabia.

Harith's team Sherco Racing Factory said on Monday that the 32-year-old is expected to undergo surgery in Jeddah. The communication does not specify the nature of the injury. Sherco had said earlier that Harith was forced to retire "following a crash in the dust after refuelling."

The native of Shoranur is the best endurance rider in India. Last year, Harith had crashed out in the prologue stage with a wrist fracture that required surgery.

The five-time National Supercross winner has had setbacks at Dakar in the past, too. He suffered a spine injury in one of the editions, but always made remarkable comebacks.
