Top seeds PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen advanced to the quarterfinals, while Kerala's Kiran George fell in the round of 16 in the Syed Modi International Super 300 badminton tournament in Lucknow on Thursday.

Sindhu, returning to the tournament after a two-year break, defeated Ira Sharma 21-10, 12-21, 21-15, while Sen knocked out Daniil Dubovenko of Israel 21-14, 21-13 in the pre-quarterfinals.

Kerala shuttler Kiran, the third seed in men's singles event, lost 21-19, 20-22, 11-21 to Shogo Ogawa of Japan.

Earlier, two-time Olympic medallist Sindhu defeated rising shuttler Anmol Kharb 21-17, 21-15, while Lakshya, 2021 world championships bronze medallist, crushed Malaysian qualifier Sholeh Aidil 21-12, 21-12 to reach the second round.
