Kidambi Srikanth defeated compatriot H S Prannoy in the men's singles first round of the Swiss Open Super 300 badminton tournament in Basel on Wednesday.

Srikanth defeated Prannoy 23-21, 23-21 to enter the second round. It was the 10th meeting between the two Indians in international competitions, with Srikanth getting the better of the man from Thiruvananthapuram for the seventh time.

In women's singles, Isharani Barua knocked out compatriot Aakarshi Kashyap 18-21, 21-17, 22-20 to enter the second round. Meanwhile, Malvika Bansod lost to World No. 20 Michelle Li of Canada 22-20, 14-21, 19-21 and Rakshitha Ramraj lost to Line Christophersen of Denmark, 21-11, 21-17.
