Neeraj Chopra failed to replicate his heroics from the Doha Diamond League, where he hit 90 metres for the first time, and settled for a sub-85m best in the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial in Chorzow, Poland, on Friday.

Chopra came up with 84.14 metres in his final attempt to take second place behind German Julian Weber, who produced a best of 86.12 metres. Anderson Peters of Grenada claimed the third place with a modest effort of 83.24 metres.

The athletes were struggling to give their best in the chilly weather in the Polish city, where the temperature was 13 degrees Celsius.

Neeraj's legendary coach, Jan Zelezny, holds the record at the venue, a massive effort of 91.50 metres set in 1994. Zelezny, whose World Record of 98.48 m has stood since May 1996, helped Neeraj unlock the 90-metre throw in him on May 16 at the Diamond League.

Neeraj hit 90.23 metres in Doha but was edged by Weber, who, too, hit a personal best of 91.06 metres to the first place. Neeraj won India's first track and field medal in the Olympics (gold) in Tokyo 2020 and followed it up with silver in Paris last year.
