Lakshya Sen and Tharun Mannepalli advanced to the semifinals of the Macau Open Super 300 badminton tournament on Friday.

Mannepali, 23, defeated China's Hu Zhe, 21-12 13-21 21-18, while Lakshya got the better of (21-14 18-21 21-14) Xuan Chen Zhu of China in the other quarterfinal.

Commonwealth Games gold medallist Lakshya will play fifth seed Alwi Farhan of Indonesia in the semifinals, while Mannepalli will take on Malaysia's Justin Hoh.

Mannepalli, a trainee at the Pullela Gopichand Academy, had never gone past the quarterfinal stage in a BWF Super 300 event.
