Triple jumper Sandra Babu secured Kerala's lone gold on the opening day of the 64th National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships in Chennai, while Tamil Nadu sprinters stole the show.

Sandra cleared 13.20 metre to take gold, while her teammate Aleena Saji secured silver with an effort of 13.15m. Punjab's Niharika Vashisht bagged bronze with 13.09m at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai.

Tamil Nadu runners Tamil Arasu and Dhana Lakshmi were declared the fastest athletes, winning gold in men's and women's 100 m races respectively.

Tamil Arasu clocked 10.22 seconds for gold, breaking the meet record of 10.27 seconds held by Gurindervir Singh since 2021.

Dhana Lakshmi's 11.36 seconds was enough to edge her teammate Abhinaya Rajarajan (11.58) for gold in women's 100 m final.

Pole vaulter Reegan G struck another gold for Tamil Nadu, with a meet record performance of 5.20 m. He broke the record of 5.11 m set by S Siva in 2023.
