Ahmedabad was confirmed as the host city of the 2030 Commonwealth Games on Wednesday.

The Commonwealth Sport's general assembly in Glasgow confirmed the development, paving the way for the return of the CWG to India after two decades. India last hosted the CWG in 2010 in Delhi.

Ahmedabad had been recommended for the centenary edition of the event at last month's Commonwealth Sport's Executive Board.

"India brings scale, youth, ambition, rich culture, enormous sporting passion and relevance," said Dr Donald Rukare, President of Commonwealth Sport.

"We start our next century for the Commonwealth Games in good health," he added.

Ahmedabad is home to the Narendra Modi Stadium, which is the largest cricket stadium in the world. India are bidding to host the 2036 Olympics.
