In a bid to ease a few of the ration shop dealers travails the Kerala Government has put on hold the earlier decision to not to supply foodgrains to the ration dealers on credit.
Supply of ration for April will conclude on Friday as the sale for May will commence on Saturday.
In the past three days, ration shops in Kerala have functioned only for two hours a day
However, those whose houses are yet to be electrified will continue to get the three-month allocation of six litres.
The commission amount due to more than 10,000 ration dealers in the State has been cut down by almost half for the month of October. The order in this regard was issued by the Civil Supplies Commissioner.
Within a month, the retail price of rice rose by Rs 15 per kg in the state. The prices of Matta and Jaya rice, which are mostly used in the state, have increased by Rs 10 to Rs 15 per kg.
