The new regulation makes it compulsory to hallmark gold jewellery before it is stored or sold to ensure purity of the precious metal.

New rules on BIS gold hallmarking are fine. What about my granny's ornaments?

Come January 15, 2021, gold retailers would be barred from selling gold ornaments that do not carry BIS hallmarking.
