Thannithode: The visitors at the Adavi Coracle Riding centre are curious to spot the Indian Giant Squirrel that often peeks out to ‘entertain’ them. Usually, the Indian Giant Squirrel do not come out if they sense human presence.

They do not climb down the trees and often jump to the top branches to stay away from sight. However, the visitors say that this one is quite friendly. The squirrel doesn’t mind coming near the visitors. It is mostly spotted on the giant mango tree near the coracle boat centre. The kids too are curious when they spot the ‘friendly’ Indian Giant Squirrel.

Meanwhile, people click pictures of the squirrel that comes quite close to them. The coracle boat centre and the near by places on the banks of the Kallar River is a haven of amazing flora and fauna. Months ago, the Eurasian hoopoe which is the national bird of Israel was spotted at the forest near the boat centre. It was for the first time that the bird was spotted in Adavi.

Adavi ecotourism center is at Thannithodu in Pathanamthitta district and a trip to the spot can be clubbed with another to the adjacent Konni elephant training centre.
