The majestic Bekal Fort added to the beauty of 'Uyire' song in Maniratnam film 'Bombay,' Thrissur's Athirappilly waterfall became a major character in films like 'Bahubali, Maniratnam's 'Raavan' and 'Guru,' Thekkady and Alappuzha which filled the 'Dil Se' song 'Jiya Jale' with oomph... Kerala's upcoming cinema tourism project will feature some prime shooting spots that impressed cine-goers repeatedly over the years.

As per reports, the State government has sanctioned Rs 1,22,50,000 to develop the Vellayani bridge which featured a handful of emotional scenes in Mohanlal-starrer 'Kireedam' and it is expected to be finished in 18 months. It is also the first spot taken up under the project. A teashop named 'Nazar cafe' on the lines of the coffee place in the film, seating arrangements for tourists to enjoy Vellayani backwaters, resthouses, artistic portrayal of the film's characters, washrooms and more are part of the project.

A few months ago, filmmaker Mani Ratnam had also met Kerala tourism minister P A Mohamed Riyas as part of supporting the project. He will reportedly participate in a show planned at Bekal Fort, as part of the initiative.
