KSRTC's Munnar Royal View double-decker bus, which was launched for tourists on February 8, will not be in service today. While being taken for maintenance on Tuesday night, an asbestos sheet on the workshop's roof hit the top portion of the bus, informed the budget tourism cell in charge. Though the KSRTC tried to source a replacement glass from Coimbatore and fix the issue last night, they couldn't. A new glass is on the way to Munnar from Thiruvananthapuram. According to the budget tourism cell, the bus will be in service from Thursday after maintenance. The double-decker bus has been well-received by tourists, though it has encountered various issues since its launch. A few days ago, the Kerala High Court questioned using illegal decorative lights on the bus, stating that it violates existing safety rules. Similarly, the taxi drivers of Munnar protested against its launch when Transport Minister Ganesh Kumar visited Munnar for the bus's inauguration.

The bus has three trips of three-hour duration every day, at 9 am, 12.30 pm and 4 pm. It starts from the Munnar KSRTC bus stand and takes the Munnar GAP Road to show tourists the Signal Point, Periyakanal Waterfalls, Rock Cave, Orange Farm and Lockhart View before ending the trip at the Anayirangal Dam. There are 38 seats on the bus' upper deck and 12 on the lower deck. The upper deck seats are charged Rs 400, and Rs 200 per passenger for the lower deck seats. Those interested in booking the service can access the KSRTC SWIFT website
