Many dream of taking to the skies on a plane for their honeymoon. But in Kerala's Idukki, a district untouched even by railway lines, could such a dream ever take flight? Not only is it possible — it’s already a reality. Rajesh, the owner of a private resort here, has turned this dream into a one-of-a-kind experience by building a plane-shaped honeymoon cottage where couples can stay.

The unique cottage, built on top of a small hill in Labbakkada along the Kattappana–Kuttikkanam route on the Hill Highway, is part of a private resort named Highrange Villas. Shaped like a massive aeroplane, the structure is primarily made of concrete and is designed to resemble an aircraft that has landed on the hilltop.

The unique model
The cottage is modelled after an Air India flight and offers several surprising features inside. A beautifully designed swimming pool is right at its centre, and there is also a charming room nearby. Dining areas, chairs, tables, and even the cockpit-like front design of the plane contribute to the cottage's overall aesthetic. The plane cottage spans 60 feet in length and offers ample interior space. The daily rent for the flight cottage is Rs 10,000, while other villas can go up to Rs 15,000 per night.

The artistic mind behind this unique structure is Manu from Nedumkandam. It took around one and a half years to complete the construction. The resort also features three other swimming pools, including two large ones and a smaller pool, as well as an open-air auditorium with a seating capacity of 500. In addition to the flight-themed cottage, the resort includes five other villas.

"With thousands of resorts in the high ranges, I wanted to create something that stood out," said Rajesh Narayanan, Managing Director of the resort, in a conversation with us. “Our main goal is customer satisfaction. In a short span, we’ve earned the trust of our visitors,” he added.
