Ancient Mangala Devi temple in Kerala’s Periyar forest opens tomorrow for annual fest: Details

The Chitra Pournami festival at Idukki’s Mangala Devi temple will be celebrated on May 12. District Collector V. Vigneshwari said that all the arrangements have been completed. Mangala Devi is an ancient Kannaki temple situated inside the Periyar Tiger Reserve. Both Kerala and Tamil Nadu jointly conduct the festival at this temple which is open for devotees only during Pournami on the day of Chithira in Chaitram month.
Additional police personnel have been deployed to regulate traffic between Karadikavala and Mangala Devi on the day of the festival. Meanwhile, the forest department will ensure drinking water for the devotees. The vehicles carrying devotees to the temple will charge Rs 160 per head to a single side. Rs 2100 will be charged as taxi fare to one side. Meanwhile, it may go up to Rs 4200 on both sides. Two-wheelers wouldn’t be allowed inside the reserve.
The health department will deploy four medical teams with ambulance facilities at Kokkarakandam, Karadikavala, Brantipara and also in the temple premises. As this is an alcohol-free area, the excise department will conduct strict inspections. Devotees will be allowed to enter through the forest department’s check post in Kumily only until 2.30 pm. They should return by 5 pm.
