Until a few years ago, it was a regular field with an occasional lotus bloom here and there. However, this year, the five-acre Poyilkavu field in Kozhikode transformed into a sea of lotus flowers till the horizon. For the past few days, the spot has also been trending on social media, and many temples have also been sourcing lotus flowers for poojas from here, say local people. The field is private property, but many have used it as a backdrop for photoshoots. 

What to see?
A vast stretch of pink-and-green flower field that reminds you of movie songs. Watching the delicate petalled lotus flowers swaying in the breeze is a serene sight. The best time to enjoy the view is early morning, as the flowers fold up and droop as the day progresses.

Activity possibilities
The area is a haven for photographers and nature lovers who compete to capture the spot's beauty with their cameras. As the big bloom happened just this year, it’s not clear how long the area will last as it is. Also, certain field areas are deep and have snakes in them.

Poyilkavu is just around 2.5 km from the renowned Kappadu Beach of Kozhikode. You can combine a trip to the field easily with a Kappadu visit.
How to reach Olippuram
The field is along the Chengottukavu – Kalopoyil Road, just about 2.5 km from the Kappadu Beach area.
