A few days ago, there were reports on how the Nilambur by-election is benefiting the region’s tourism players as well, with its hotels and homestays packed with election workers and politicians. When not on duty, many of them found time to check out the region’s hidden escapes as well. Nilambur, which is blessed with the world’s oldest man-made teak museum, a legendary teak garden, Karimbuzha wildlife sanctuary in Karulayi and Kakkadampoyil hill station, is known for its tremendous natural beauty. If all the talk about the Nilambur by-election has also urged you to check out its verdant retreats, here are a few suggestions for you:

Conolly’s Eco Tourism Centre
Conolly’s Eco-Tourism Centre at Aruvakod on the KNG state highway is sprawled over 13 acres on the banks of the Kuthirapuzha and Chaliyar rivers. This tourism centre has walkways along the river, a children’s park, a butterfly park, a star forest, a garden of endangered herbs, a medicinal herb garden, and ornamental plants.

Conolly teak garden, the oldest manmade teak museum in the world, is on the other side of the Chaliyar River. Hundreds of visitors, including foreigners, visit the museum to enjoy the grandeur of the teak trees.

DFO Bungalow and skywalk
The DFO Bungalow atop the hills at Chanthakunnu in Nilambur was constructed by the British around a century ago as a residential complex for the DFOs. An extensive mahogany orchard, the skywalk close to the bungalow, and the Chaliyar viewpoint are the highlights of this spot.
