Munnar has often been in the news of late for clashes between tourists, local residents and vendors. However, some places in the district are hailed for their responsible tourism models that attract visitors from around the globe. The jeep drivers and tourism entrepreneurs operating in places like Pooppara, Shantanpara, Panniyarkutty, and Rajakkad, which are part of East Munnar, take the art of hospitality quite seriously and ensure a safe and comfortable trip for tourists. Their genuine efforts to promote tourism in the area have paid off, as the number of tourists visiting these areas has skyrocketed in recent years.

Charging overwhelming rent for hotel rooms and vehicles is often one of the main reasons for scuffles and heated exchanges between tourists and local residents. However, fixed rates are displayed at these places, and those working in the tourism industry have vowed not to charge visitors exorbitant rates.

Jeep Safari Syndicate, an organisation based in Pooppara, provides proper training for drivers and other personnel in the tourism sector. The members of this organisation are well-trained in manners and etiquette, and they have a clear idea about how to interact with tourists. Jeep Safari Syndicate president Ashish Varghese urges the panchayat, motor vehicle department and tourism department to provide expert training for tourism entrepreneurs and jeep drivers. The jeep drivers in these areas charge affordable rates to transport tourists and passengers to popular tourist spots such as Akka Thankachipara, Thondimala, Mullanthandu, Swargam Medu, Kallipara, Uchilukuthu, Njandarmettu, Chokramudi, and Anayirankal.

Earlier, jeep drivers used to charge exorbitant rates or whatever they liked for this. However, jeep safari has transitioned to online booking as of January 15. It would cost around Rs 3195 to hire a jeep to Kolukkumala. Jeeps that are tested by the motor vehicle department for fitness every six months could run services here. Additionally, experienced drivers with valid licenses are permitted to conduct jeep safaris at Kolukkumala. Breathalyser tests are conducted at the ticket counter to determine whether drivers have consumed alcohol. The authorities warn that drivers who break the rules or are rude to tourists will be suspended from the Kolukkumala jeep safari.
