Water lilies re-emerge in Malarikkal after rains: What tourists should know

Kerala's pink water lily haven, Malarikkal, is all set to welcome tourists again after a few days of heavy rains. The plants, which were submerged in water due to the floods, have re-emerged with renewed vigour, and tourists have also started arriving again to enjoy the pink fields. The season will go on till October, after which the fields will be prepared for the next season of sowing.
Best spots
Tourists are now swarming the J Block Onpathinayiram and the Thiruvayikkari fields to enjoy boating, sightseeing and photoshoots.
Tips for visit
When to visit – The water lilies look their best between 6 am and 10 am, and the flowers will start to droop when the sun starts shining.
Boats – Visitors can hire boats to see the waterlilies up close. There are 100 boats at the Thiruvayikkari Gurumandiram temple ghat and 80 boats at the J Block.
Boat charges – Boats that can carry up to 5 – 6 persons cost ₹1,000 per hour (Make sure to reach an agreement regarding the fares and the time before boarding the boat).
Car parking – Parking facilities are arranged at the area where the J Block Onpathinayiram paddy fields begin. A parking fee of ₹30 – 50 will be charged for cars. Visitors can also use toilets by paying ₹10.

1. Kottayam – Illickal Kavala – Thiruvarpu Road – Kanjiram Junction (turn left) – Kanjiram Bridge – Malarikkal.
2. Kumarakam – Illickal Kavala – Thiruvarpu Road – Kanjiram Junction (turn left) – Kanjiram Bridge – Malarikkal.
