World’s tallest Christmas tree has been lit in the industrial town of Dortmund in Germany’s North Rhine-Westphalia district. Hundreds of visitors are swarming the Christmas market in Hansaplatz, Dortmund to see the tree that stands tall at 45 metres and weighs 40 tonnes. The world’s tallest tree was set up immediately after the Christmas market was opened. Meanwhile, the tree was lit up recently in the presence of hundreds of spectators.
What makes it special
The giant tree, 45 metres tall and weighing 40 tonnes, was built by attaching 1,200 Norway spruce trees. 1,38,000 LED lights have been used to light up the massive tree. The angel placed on top of the tree alone is four metres tall. It took around four weeks to build this spectacular Christmas tree in Dortmund.
Following last year's criticisms, some notable changes have been made to the decorations this year. Large red coloured candles have been placed under the tree. Besides, LED angels with moving wings have also found a place on the tallest Christmas tree in the world.
When Kerala had world's biggest human Xmas tree
Do you know that Kerala set a Guinness World Record for the largest human Christmas tree? Interestingly, it happened 10 years ago in Chengannur, when 4030 people gathered in the municipality stadium here to break a record held by Honduras. The tree, set up in five minutes, had schoolchildren and other residents as participants.
