Vizhinjam: New year has brought some happy news to Vizhinjam. Two luxury cruise liners will make a call at the port during the ongoing tourism season.

While the first ship, Silver Discoverer, will arrive with tourists on February 2, Amadea, a much bigger vessel, will reach Vizhinjam on March 29. Both will have a brief halt here.

Silver Discoverer, with around a hundred passengers, will be coming from Kochi as part of its world tour. The tourists will visit various spots in the city as well as the rural areas. They will board the ship the same evening to continue their voyage. Colombo will be the cruise ship’s subsequent port of call.

Meanwhile, Amadea will reach Vizhinjam from Colombo with over 600 tourists and drop anchor off the coast owing to its big size. The passengers will be brought to the shore by boat. The luxury liner will resume its journey from Vizhinjam the same night.

Amadea had earlier visited Vizhinjam in 2015 and Silver Discoverer during the 2016 tourist season. However, Island Sky, a cruise liner that used to arrive with tourists every year, has dropped Vizhinjam from its itinerary this time. The ship is not touching Kochi also during this season.
