Fake videos scare away tourists from Athirappilly

Athirapally waterfalls

Athirappilly, Thrissur: A significant drop has been reported in the number of tourists visiting the famed Athirappilly waterfalls in Thrissur district owing to some scary fake videos that have become viral on the social media.

The fake videos of monsoon fury and natural disasters due to heavy rains that have been lashing Kerala are doing the rounds on the social media for the last two days.

Ostensibly the faux videos comprise edited images of roads that have been washed away in flood and water-logged houses. These images are juxtaposed with the real images of the Athirappilly waterfalls.

A few who watched the videos frantically contacted their relatives residing near Athirappilly, located in the Chalakudy taluk, to enquire about their safety.

The resort owners here claimed that there has been a decrease in the number of tourists after the videos became viral on the internet.

Many people who had planned trips to the Athirappilly have either cancelled or postponed it. Often tourists throng Athirappilly to enjoy the incredible beauty of the waterfalls during the three months starting from June.
