Nehru Trophy venue, town under intense police watch

Alappuzha: The police have tightened security in the town as well as Punnamada Lake for the Nehru Trophy Boat Race. Police teams will guard the land as well as the lake. Thirty police boats will patrol the Punnamada Lake.

The Intelligence wing of state police has reported that fake tickets have been readied for sale at the Nehru Trophy Boat Race. Shadow police have been asked to locate those who sell it.

Barricades for boats, viewers

A barricade has been set up north of the Dock Chira to keep competing boats. Other boats won't be allowed entry into the race track. Those who violate rules at the starting point will be disqualified. Bonus concessions will also be declined. Cameras have been installed to locate boats and rowers who break rules of the race. Boats of officials alone are allowed in the contest track after 8 am. Those violating will be punished, and the driver's licence will be suspended for three years.

Swimmers are not allowed in the canal or race track. Announcements and ad boards have been blocked since 8 am. Microphones are disallowed and will be seized if used.

Boat services have been blocked since 10 am from DTPC Jetty to the Punnamada lake and back.

Barricades have also been erected on both shores of the starting point in a bid to prevent viewers from reaching out to the boats there. The main gate to the finishing point has also been barricaded. Only those holding passes will be allowed to enter the pavilion. Those who leave the pavilion during the race will not be allowed re-entry.
