Bengaluru: The official Facebook page of Kerala Tourism will now update posts in the Kannada language as well. Vivid descriptions about the major tourism centres in Kerala are posted in Kannada to draw more tourists from Karnataka. The first post in Kannada was uploaded on the first week of May about the incredible natural beauty of the Athirapilly waterfalls. This post garnered hundreds of likes and was widely shared as well. Following this, posts in Kannada appeared about the various tourist destinations in Varkala, Munnar and Idukki, on the Facebook page.

These posts gained more than 50,000 'likes' and 'shares' within just a few days. Initially, information was posted only in Malayalam and English. Though Kerala was ravaged by the floods last year, the number of tourists from Karnataka didn’t dwindle.

Around 10, 02,016 tourists from Karnataka had visited the various tourism centres in the state last year. Karnataka holds the second position in the number of domestic tourists visiting Kerala. Meanwhile, the first position is held by another neighbouring state Tamil Nadu with 13, 78,992 tourists visiting last year. The tourism department conducts B to B meets every year in Bengaluru for the promotion of Kerala tourism.
