Kottayam: Indian travellers who visit Dubai have a reason to be happy. Now, you don't need to convert the Indian rupee at any duty free shop in Dubai airport. The facility has been arranged on all three terminals of the airport.

Earlier, Indian travellers had to convert the rupee into Dollar, Dirham or Euro before shopping at duty free shops. With the new initiative, Indian currency is the 17th currency which will be accepted at Dubai airport.

Out of 90 million passengers who visited Dubai airports last year, 12.2 million were Indians. The decision to accept Indian currency was made considering the increase in the number of passengers from India.

Dubai duty free, one of the biggest retail operators in the world, is widely popular among Indians. The shops are open 24 hours in the airport.
