Kottayam: Popular tourist destination Kumarakom is busy welcoming tourists for the upcoming Christmas-New Year festivities. The bookings at the five star and the four star hotels are almost over. Meanwhile, the three star hotels and the homestays are soon filling up. Coconut Lagoon resort manager G Shambu said that more tourists would reach Kumarakom in the coming days.

Special arrangements

Special performances of the traditional art forms of Kerala would be highlight of the festivities. The hotels will make arrangements for the tourists to watch the last sunset of 2019. However, the house boat industry is still in the lull with only less than 30 boats hired, among the fleet of 110 houseboats.

Crowd at Vagamon

The misty hills of Vagamon too are witnessing crowds during this season. The hotels and resorts are almost full, with bookings closed in more than 80% resorts. Vagamon has become a favourite destination for the tourists to ring in New Year.

Vagamon

Meanwhile, the beautiful hills of Vagamon that shares borders with the Kottayam and Idukki districts, has recorded massive drop in temperature. The cool breeze and the wonderful sights are what draw the crowds to Vagamon. Compared to the previous years, modern facilities and adventure activities like rock climbing, trekking and paragliding are ready to thrill the tourists this year.
