Kumarakom: A good chunk of the tourists arriving at popular tourist destination, Kumarakom in Kerala’s Kottayam, is from Israel.

The campaign run by Tourism Department in Western Asia, Chamber of Vembanad Hotels and Resorts, and various hotels at Kumarakom helped in increasing the footfalls from Israel. The 'Dream Destination - Kerala' campaign by the Kerala Tourism played a huge role in attracting tourists.

Also, the direct flight service from Tel-Aviv to Kochi also made it much easier for Israelis to reach the God's own state. They can reach Kochi in all of seven hours.

And most of the tourists arriving in Kerala head to Kumarakom.

The inland waterways of Kumarakom are extremely popular among West Asian tourists. Generally, a team of 20-30 tourists arrive in Kumarakom.

Those arriving in groups at the resorts also take up cycle rides to enjoy the beauty of rural land.

Lisa Baram, who is part of a group from Israel staying at the Lake Song Resort in Kumarakom, wrote thus: "Kerala is beautiful. Nice weather. Kumarakom is a peaceful region. Really liked the houseboats and resorts.”

The tourism department is hopeful that more tourists would head to Kumarakom in the coming days.
