Mysuru: Visitors to the royal city of Mysuru and the historic town of Hampi would soon be able to enjoy the sights at these world-renowned destinations from the comfort of a double-decker bus.

The new bus service will be launched at Mysuru during late March and at Hampi in June this year by the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC).

In the first phase, six buses would conduct services. The vehicles cost a total of Rs 6 crore for the KSTDC. Four of these buses would hit the road in Mysuru and the rest two in Hampi. The seating capacity of each bus is 40. While 20 passengers can sit in the air-conditioned lower deck, the same number can be accommodated in the open upper deck. The bus is modelled on the famed 'Big Bus' of London.

In Mysuru, the bus route would cover the zoo, Ambavilas Palace, and the Karanji Lake, said KSTDC managing director Kumar Pushkar.

Another place where double-decker service is available for local sightseeing is Mumbai, where the facility is arranged by the Maharashtra Tourism Department.
