Cancun, a popular holiday destination in Mexico, is offering attractive packages to lure travellers after the lockdown. As per one package, tourists can stay for an additional two nights free of cost if they book rooms for two nights and also enjoy free food. Moreover, free accommodation would be provided for two children along with two adults.

This 2+2 package is being implemented since early June by roping in around 200 privately-managed tourism institutions. In fact, there is as much as 75 per cent involvement of the private hotel industry in the programme.

Along with stay options, the offer covers transportation as well. Visitors hiring a car for four days can use it for another two days free of cost. In addition, the package enables travellers to use facilities such as golf and spa as well as facilitates entry to theme parks.

Meanwhile, there are plans to extend the offer to Puerto Morelos, Tulum, and Isla Mujeres, a Caribbean island eight miles from Cancun.

A contest is also being held for tourists utilizing the offer and winners can enjoy free stay for the next 20 years. Details are available on the hashtag #Come2MexicanCaribbean.

The tourism industry in Mexico believes that the package would attract more travellers to the country in July and August. However, some hotel chains like Groupo Xcaret have kept away from the programme, pointing out that their financial situation would worsen if discounts and freebies are given beyond certain limits.
