Enjoy the beauty of backwaters, catamaran boat to begin service today

Alappuzha: The state water transport department’s catamaran boat, Vega-2, will begin service in Alappuzha on Thursday. The service would let the passengers enjoy the beauty of Kuttanad backwaters.

Kerala's traditional cuisines, prepared by the Kudumbashree workers, would also be served on board.

The boat will start from Alappuzha at 11 am and sail through Punnamada, Muhamma, Pathiramanal, Kumarakom, R Block, Marthandam backwaters, Chithira, C Block, Mangalassery, and Kuppapuram. It would return to Alappuzha by 5 pm.

The boat has 40 AC seats and 80 non-AC seats. The ticket rate for the AC seat is Rs 600 and for the non-AC seat is Rs 400. A total of 120 people can travel on the boat, which can cruise at a maximum speed of 15 nautical miles. 

Though the inauguration was held in March, the boat services were suspended due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
