Flights to Europe, Africa from Kochi soon, says Kerala CM

Nedumbassery: Air passengers from Kerala bound for Europe or US has to undergo a major ordeal as they seek direct or connection flights to these popular destinations from airports outside Kerala or India. In a major relief to lakhs of such air travellers, convenient flights could soon be a reality from Kerala.

Discussions are on to operate more services to Europe and Africa from the Cochin International Airport here, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said, adding the schedules are likely to materialise soon.

CIAL projects

Addressing the annual general body meeting of the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL), the chief minister said the renovation of the Terminal Two will commence next month. The Business Jet Terminal, a part of the renovation, will be operational within a year.

Vijayan, also the Chairman of CIAL, said in the virtual meeting.

Works of various diverse schemes, aimed at augmenting the revenue of the company (CIAL), have already been initiated, the chief minister said. The management has also prepared a plan for land utilization.

The first phase of 'Operation Pravah', CIAL's flood mitigation programme, has been completed successfully.

Ministers and CIAL directors P Rajeeve, and K Rajan, directors K Roy Paul, A K Ramani, M A Yusuff Ali, N V George, E M Babu, and Managing Director S Suhas attended the meeting.
