Expo 2020 Dubai closing ceremony to enthral world today

Dubai: The world is rushing to grand Expo 2020 here that has enchanted visitors for the past six months.

The authorities recorded more than a million visits last Friday, Saturday and Sunday. More visitors are expected to flock the pavilions as the curtain falls on the iconic expo.

To make the finale of the global fair a spectacular affair, beautiful fireworks display, performances by top artists from around the globe and air shows have been arranged. The grand fair experienced the busiest weekend in the last six months with 22,987, 830 visitors reaching the venue last week.

The Expo 2020 Dubai, which is the first to be hosted in a Gulf region, has fulfilled its commitment to draw between 22.9 million and 25.4 million visits. This is a commendable achievement indeed, especially in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Colourful events

The finale of the Expo on March 31 would be a historic one marked by scintillating programs.

An aerobatic performance by UAE Air Force’s Fursan Al Emarat aerobatics team would be the highlight of the closing ceremony. Before an unforgettable climax, the baton of the expo would be handed over to the next generation.

Global music icons like Christina Aguilera, Norah Jones and Yo – Yo Mama would perform beneath the splendid Al Wasl dome. Noted Italian pianist Eleonora Constantini too would take to the stage to thrill the audience. Visitors would be able to watch these programs on more than 20 giant screens across the site, including at the Jubilee Stage, Dubai Millennium Amphitheatre, Festival Garden and the pavilions of various countries.

Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE’s Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence and Commissioner General of Dubai Expo 2020, will hand the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) flag to Ambassador Jai – chul Choi, the President and Dimitri Kerkentzes, the Secretary.

Fireworks display

There will be beautiful fireworks display at midnight and at 3 am, while the celebrations continue throughout the night.
