The Kerala Tourism Department has recently decided to offer senior citizens a concession of 50 percent on the entry fee at tourism centres.

The concession is only on the entry fee to tourism centres that come under the state tourism department. Also, the concession is not applicable to rooms.

Senior citizens and organisations working for their welfare had earlier approached the government, seeking concessions at tourism centres. The Kozhikode Human Rights Forum had also raised a similar demand in a petition submitted to the Committee on the Welfare of the Senior Citizens of the Kerala Legislature.

The tourism department then prepared a detailed report on the matter and submitted it before the committee. After much deliberation, the department decided to offer the 50% concession on the entry fee.

The decision was taken with the objective of attracting more tourists to the tourism centres. The tourism sector has been undergoing several changes post the Covid pandemic.
