PM Modi to inaugurate Kochi Water Metro on Tuesday

Kochi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will flag off the first Vande Bharat servive in the state on Thiruvananthapuram, will also inaugurate Kochi's much-awaited Water Metro on April 25, Tuesday.

The construction of the first phase of the project has completed and trial runs were conducted for two services, between High Court-Vypeen and Vyttila-Kakkanad corridors, Manorama News reported.

78 air-conditioned boats, 38 terminals
The service will have 23 battery-powered electric boats manufactured by Cochin Shipyard, and they can be charged in 15 minutes. They can accommodate around 100 passengers and are fully air-conditioned. The boats can be up to 10 nautical miles per hour fast.

They will have a control center at the Vyttila hub.

The Water Metro service connects 38 terminals along 76 kilometers with 78 boats. Authorities claim that such a service chain is the first of its kind in the world.
