A charming waterfall hidden among rubber plantations, Aruvikuzhi waterfall has been a popular picnic spot for many youngsters who love to enjoy nature.

However, many often complaint that the spot lacks basic facilities. But now, the Kottayam District Tourism Promotion Council is all set to revive the Aruvikuzhi tourism project in order to turn the area into a major vacation destination. The Aruvikuzhi waterfalls is situated in the fifth ward at Thottapuzhaserry panchayat. The Amenity centre that was built on a budget of Rs 18.5 lakh was inaugurated in 2006.

The Aruvikuzhi Lake originates in the east side of Charalkunnu hill and flows four kilometres before reaching the Pamba River.

The revival of the project
Though the tourism amenity centre was renovated and tender was invited for running it a while ago, no one had showed any interest. However, the authorities have restarted the tender procedures. The DTPC had informed that the quotations were to be submitted before June 26. The project would be handed over, based on a contract, for up to three years. It includes the main building, bathroom complex and the waterfalls and its surrounding area.

New road to the site
The tourism department hopes hat the project would create favourable environment for investments like restaurants and hotels in the region. That said, the road that leads to the waterfall is in a dilapidated state. Now, the visitors take a path through a private property to reach the waterfall. Even though the DTPC had tried to take over this plot, it was unsuccessful. Meanwhile, the DTPC is contemplating building a new road in its own plot.
