Kollam: The scope for the water metro project in the Ashtamudi Lake is under consideration, according to the Corporation officials. A detailed meeting regarding this would be held at the council soon.

An expert team led by the general manager of the water transport department would attend this meeting. The mayor added that the Kochi Water Metro Limited has informed that the Ashtamudi Lake is suitable to introduce the water metro services.

Meanwhile, the council recently passed an agenda appealing to the central and the state governments and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to build an elevated highway instead of the RE wall which is being built at the Ayathil junction as part of the national highway development project.

The mayor noted that a representation would be submitted to the union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari regarding the same.

Meanwhile, Jose Mathieckal, the director of projects and partnerships at the International Maritime Organisation had recently said that the Kochi Water Metro model should be tried in other parts of the state as well.

He expressed the opinion while travelling on the ferry, from Vytilla to Kakkanad recently. The IMO team was in Kochi to analyse the project.
