The Vande Bharat sleeper trains, which will be rolled out next year, will have some swanky interiors to attract new-age passengers. While Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared concept photos of the same on social media a few days ago, Integral Coach Factory General Manager BG Mallya recently told a national publication that the new trains will have a 'never-seen-before' feel to it, as far as its ambience is concerned. He said the Vande Bharat sleeper train is a 'Vande chair car' modified with sleeper accommodation. It will have 16 coaches, of which 11 will be AC three-tier coaches, four 2-tier types coaches, and one will be the first-class air-conditioner.
Mallya also added that the sleeper's speciality will be its swanky air-conditioned interiors with soft lighting, automatic doors, passenger-friendly ladders for upper berths, vacuum toilets, premium plug points, intercommunication doors and more. He said the plan is to test it by March 2024. The ICF GM also added that the Vande Metro trains will be for a maximum of 300 km distance journey and it will also have all the features of Vande Bharat, plus additional space for passengers to stand and travel. Its rollout is expected by January 2024.
