Bengaluru: A handful of special fare one-way trains are announced for Deepavali by the Railways this year, in the Tambaram - Nagercoil, Tambaram - Mangaluru routes. The Tambaram to Nagercoil (06061) special train departs from Tambaram at 7.30 pm on November 10, Friday. It reaches Nagercoil the next day at 7.10 am. The Nagercoil to Mangaluru Junction (06062) train is scheduled for November 11 and it departs from Nagercoil on Saturday at 2.45 pm. It reaches Mangaluru at 5.15 am on Sunday. The Mangaluru to Tambaram (06063) train will leave Mangaluru at 10 am on Sunday. It will arrive at Tambaram on Monday at 5.10 am. The booking for the trains has already begun.
Earlier it was reported that Southern Railway is considering a proposal to operate a Special Vande Bharat Express in Kerala during Deepavali. The special train was reportedly for connecting Chennai, Kochi and Bengaluru and apparently, if it comes into force, it will have eight rakes that are expected to handle the weekend rush on the routes. The service will be operated after receiving permission from South Western Railway. Indian Railways has introduced 283 festival special trains for Diwali and Chhath Puja this year. The new trains were announced to accommodate the festival traffic and those who failed to get confirmed tickets for the period. They will collectively undertake 4,480 journeys.
