Now, you can book Kochi Metro tickets on WhatsApp; actor Miya launches service

Kochi: As part of its initiatives to promote digital ticketing and enhance e-payments, Kochi Metro Rail Limited has introduced a WhatsApp ticketing facility.

Actor Miya George launched the service at the KMRL office here in the presence of Managing Director Loknath Behera and other officials.

Passengers can now book digital tickets through WhatsApp by sending a message to KMRL WhatsApp number 9188957488. The commuters will get 10 per cent discount in mobile QR purchased through WhatsApp during normal hours and 50 % discount during non-peak hours (5.45am to 7am and 10pm to 11pm) from the original fares.

“This initiative will promote digital ticketing, enhance paperless ticketing and avoid queuing at ticket counters. The facility will be available to public from Wednesday (January 10),” Behera said.

“The KMRL and its ticketing partner Axis Bank are experimenting on using of Kochi– 1 card for commuting in buses, feeder buses, feeder auto rickshaws in addition to Kochi Metro and Water Metro. In 2024, all efforts are being made to reach an average ridership of one lakh per day on Kochi Metro,” Behera said.

Commuters can follow the below steps to purchase the WhatsApp QR Tickets:
1. Save KMRL WhatsApp number 9188957488 on your phone
2. Type and send "Hi" in WhatsApp to the above number and follow the instructions.
3. Click "QR Ticket".
4. Click on "Book Ticket".
5. Select Entry & Exit station from station list.
6. Select number of passengers.
7. Proceed to payment and pay by preferred mode.
8. In case of cancellation, type and send ‘Hi”
