Air Kerala airline, which is all set to take flight this year, will operate from the Kannur International Airport and Mysuru Airport. The authorities of both Air Kerala and Mysuru Airport have signed an agreement regarding this. The agreement that allows the airline to operate from Kannur International Airport was signed last month. Kerala’s airline company offers affordable tickets and time-bound services.
It is likely to begin service by May or June this year. The authorities hope that starting an airline company based in Kannur will provide impetus to the tourism sector of Malabar and aid the development of the Kannur International Airport. Besides operating flight services from Mysuru, Air Kerala and Mysuru Airport authorities are reportedly collaborating to open an aviation academy.
International services to begin by 2026
Although Air Kerala might start with domestic services, the airline will likely begin international services by the end of 2026. Their international services would be operated with Kochi as the base. Zetfly Aviation was started by a group of expatriate entrepreneurs who are the promoters of Air Kerala. Dubai-based Malayali businessman Afi Ahamed is the chairman, while Ayub Kallada is the vice chairman.
Meanwhile, Hareesh Kutty, previously associated with Spice Jet, is the CEO. With an initial fleet of three ATR aircraft, Air Kerala will begin domestic services from four airports in Kerala. Besides these, the airline would also operate services from Mysuru Airport. Air Kerala plans to begin international services after increasing the aircraft in its fleet. The international services are likely to focus mainly on the Gulf sector.
