In a major move for passenger safety and crowd control, Indian Railways has decided to restrict platform access only for passengers with confirmed tickets in 60 railway stations across the country. A few of the stations on the list would be the Chennai Central, Bengaluru City, Howrah Juntion, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, and the New Delhi Railway Stations, as per reports. Once the rule comes into effect, those passengers on a waiting list and those without tickets will have to wait in pre-designated areas outside these stations. More surveillance cameras will also be set up in these stations to monitor war rooms. Alongside these measures, there will also be a restriction in the number of ticket sales depending on the station's capacity and the availability of trains. Here are a few of the other measures expected to be implemented alongside these changes:

1) Railway staff and service personnel will be issued new ID cards
2) Easily identifiable uniforms for railway employees, to seek their help during emergencies
3) Unauthorised entry points to platforms and stations to be sealed
4) Two new foot over bridge designs of 12 metres (40 feet) wide and 6 metres (20 feet) wide.
5) Senior officials will be appointed as station directors at these stations, with authority to make on-the-spot decisions and handle finance-based matters.
6) New-gen digital communication devices to be deployed for real-time coordination
