Authorities have turned their backs on the Keralamkundu tourism centre, owned by the DTPC in Malappuram. The centre was built near the Keralamkundu waterfalls ten years ago, when AP Anilkumar was the tourism minister. Visitors say the building has not been properly maintained since its inauguration.

A foul odour wafts through the area as the septic tank has been overflowing for months now. Health authorities visited the site a few days ago after receiving complaints that waste from the septic tank was being discharged into the river.

The iron staircase to the waterfalls is rusted and dilapidated in many places. The iron pillar in the waiting area is almost rusted and poses a threat to the people. The iron sheets of the pillars have not been painted yet.

The road leading to the tourism centre is lined with huge stones, making it difficult for visitors to walk or drive through in vehicles. Visitors are unable to access the waterfall due to the steep slope, as the stairs are rusted. The plastic sheet has been laid as there are leakages on the ceiling in the entrance area.
