New Delhi: Air India will charge additional handling charges for unaccompanied minors (ages 5 – 12) travelling onboard. The airline company said the handling charges have been introduced to ensure the child’s safety and comfort. In domestic flights, handling charges are Rs 5000, in addition to the ticket price. Meanwhile, handling charges are Rs 8500 for flights to the Gulf region, Asia, and SAARC countries.
Rs 10,000 is charged as handling charges for unaccompanied minors flying to Britain, Europe, Israel and Australia. It could go up to Rs 13,000 for tickets booked to the US and Canada. Earlier, there weren’t any additional charges for the tickets booked for children travelling alone. One hundred eighty-four dirhams were charged only in flights to the UAE. It was the ground handling fare charged by the airport there.
Who is an unaccompanied minor?
The passenger should carry the 'Unaccompanied Minor' form filled by the parents on the day of travel. The child should reach the airport at least three hours before the scheduled time to complete the procedures. The ticket fares would be the same for children. However, unaccompanied minors from 5 to 12 years of age would be charged handling charges. The Air India employee will assist the child at the airport. For details, visit the website.
