A video in which the passengers of the Delhi-Srinagar Indigo 6E-2142 flight are screaming mid-air due to severe flight turbulence has been going around online since yesterday. Sheikh Samiullah, one of the passengers, said everything was normal during the flight. Just about 20 minutes before reaching Srinagar, there was an announcement from the cockpit asking to fasten seatbelts. We felt this would be our last flight within two minutes, so much turbulence happened. Everyone was scared and felt the plane was going to crash. I am a frequent flyer, but I have never experienced something similar ever," said Samiullah. He said he is thankful to the pilot who landed them safely in Srinagar.
Apparently, when the 227 passengers, which included 5 MPs, deboarded the plane, they were traumatised to see the condition of the flight! In various images of the flight, it can be seen with a damaged nose cone. One of the flyers, Ubair Shah, shared on X that the flight also experienced a sudden drop of 3900 feet mid-air and even some crew members were in tears. Grateful to the pilot for regaining control. A flight I will never forget," he wrote on X. Trinamool Congress leader Sagarika Ghose, who was also a flyer described the ordeal a 'near-death experience' and said, 'People were screaming, praying and panicking. I thought my life was over.'
Earlier, in a travel advisory on Indigo's X page, they had mentioned that flights from Kolkata, Delhi and Chandigarh will be impacted due to the weather conditions in Delhi and it had also delayed several domestic and international flights at the Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport. Confirming the emergency situation in which the flight was, an Indigo official confirmed to the media that the flight experienced a hailstorm and an emergency was reported to ATC SXR Srinagar. The plane was also declared 'Aircraft on Ground' by the airline, which means it is grounded for urgent repairs.
