The annual Malabar River Festival was flagged off today at Chalipuzha in Kodenchery. The three-day event, organised by the Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society (KATPS) and the Kozhikode District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC), with the support of the Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association (IKCA), has many exciting events scheduled until July 27. 

The professional women's individual extreme slalom event is scheduled for Saturday, July 26, at Pulikayyam, Game of Thrones Rapid. The men's and women's downriver eliminator events will be held on the last day at the Malabar Express at Pullurampara. This year's special invitees for the event include Russian kayakers Anton Sveshnikov, Ryan O'Connor, and Daria Kuzischcheva, as well as New Zealand's Manu Wackernagel, Milli Chamberlain, Zack Stones, Rata Lovell Smith, and Philip Palzer, and Jose Todd from the UK. From 5 pm on the day, prize distribution will be held at KTDC Bar. 

The event commenced a day late and is being held in a low-key manner this year in honour of Kerala's former Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan, who passed away on Monday, July 21.
